Olympics 2020 Mascot

Meet Miraitowa and Someity: The Official Mascots of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Designed by Ryo Taniguchi, the mascots promote the Olympic spirit and culture of the host city.

Born on February 28, 2018, the mascots were chosen from a pool of over 2,000 submissions.

The cartoony Miraitowa is the official mascot of the Tokyo Olympics and it comes with surprising powers the athletes can only envy. Its name is a combination of the Japanese words "mirai" (future) and "towa" (eternity), and it is designed to represent the future of the Olympic Games and the spirit of the Japanese people.

Someity, the official mascot of the Paralympic Games, is named after a variety of cherry blossom that blooms in Tokyo in the spring. Its name is also a combination of the Japanese words "somei" (cherry blossom) and "yoshi" (good luck), and it is designed to represent the Paralympic spirit of overcoming challenges and achieving dreams.

Together, Miraitowa and Someity will serve as the ambassadors of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, promoting the values of friendship, respect, and excellence.
