Atlanta Continues Win Streak, Extends Division Lead
Dansby Swanson's Grand Slam Highlights Braves' Offensive Outburst
ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Braves extended their winning streak to six games with a resounding 12-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night at Truist Park.
Dansby Swanson's grand slam in the second inning broke the game open and propelled the Braves to their seventh win in their last eight games.
The Braves jumped out to an early lead when Ronald Acuña Jr. led off the game with a double and scored on Matt Olson's single. Swanson's grand slam came with two outs and gave Atlanta a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Braves added to their lead in the third inning on Travis d'Arnaud's RBI single and extended it to 8-0 in the fourth on Michael Harris II's two-run homer.
Meanwhile, the Braves' pitching staff was equally impressive. Spencer Strider started and allowed just two hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out eight. The bullpen followed suit, with A.J. Minter, Dylan Lee, and Jake Odorizzi combining to allow just one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings.
The win gives the Braves a 7.5-game lead in the NL East over the New York Mets. The Nationals, on the other hand, have lost seven of their last eight games and now sit at 56-75 on the season.
The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night at Truist Park.
